From 1923: “This brick house and garage, built of the most dependable material. All specially selected from a most dependable building material firm, Dann-Gerow Company (Hello Boys). House has three bedrooms and bath on second floor, sun parlor, living room, breakfast nook and kitchen on first floor. Lot 60 X 110. Northwest corner of Fourteenth Avenue North and Bay Street. If you want something a little different and distinctive, here it is. It was not built to sell, but will. $14,500 on easy terms.”

This house was purchased in 1923 by J.B. Sims, Vice-president of the Dann-Gerow Company mentioned in the Ad.

John Byrd “Gip” Sims was born in Newton Alabama on June 24, 1891. In about 1901 John’s family moved to St. Pete. John Sims served in WWI as a 1st Sergeant in the Army. When he was discharged, he came back to St. Pete and went to work for the Dann-Gerow Building Supply Company and in 1921 bought into the business, becoming VP and Treasurer. John belonged to the Yacht Club, Country Club, Civitan Club, and American Legion Post.

John Byrd Sims died on March 13, 1967 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery.
